Ghost fishing

 

Ghost fishing is when abandoned fishing equipment is left out at sea and catches marine animals. These animals then get stuck and usually die and never get picked up as they are caught by discarded nets. These nets don't only kill marine animals, they also kills coral. Because some the the fishing gear that could be floating around discarded could be heavy. For example when a trawling net breaks the fisherman dumps it into the ocean. Because the net is very heavy the current sweeps it over the bottom of the ocean and drags along corals with it, killing them in the process.
